The 40 Over 40 Project: The Unveiling

Monday, August 15, 2022 | By: Stephanie Suarez

A labor of love, and a project that we’ve been working on for over a year and a half, has FINALLY come to fruition! And I seriously could not be more excited. If you’ve been following along our journey for any time, then you’ve more than likely heard us mention this project before. Be it from a blog, social media post, or on our website! The 40-Over-40 Project is where 40 amazing women, forty years old and above, all said "yes".

Yes to an experience that they will carry with them forever. Yes to taking just one day for themselves and getting a brand new perspective. Yes to being vulnerable, exposed, raw and authentic, and going full-force into the beauty of what it means to be a woman who is forty or older. These incredible ladies said yes to all of this and more, and instead of having me go on about it, here are a few snippets of what you can expect from the 40 Over 40 Project Magazine, which will be unveiled at the Gala & Exhibition on August 27th at 6pm.

This will be a night filled with music, art, live entertainment and more, and it is open to anyone and everyone!!

Take a Sneak Peek into The 40 Over 40 Project

Start by telling me who you are? Where are you from? How old are you now? What do you do?

Hi! I'm Cheeky, 50 and the proud mother of 2 boys Anthony 22 and Austin 18. I am originally from Massachusetts and moved to Miami in 1993 to attend College. I own and operate Cheeky Fitness Pole Dancing & Fitness studio in West Palm Beach since 2009 where we teach pole dancing and non-traditional workouts such as rebounding with Kangoo Jumps rebounding boots, aerial yoga, chair dancing, twerk, host private parties for birthdays and bachelorettes and MORE!

How did you mark turning 40? And how did that feel?

Ooh that was awhile ago, but I would say essentially I was raising my boys and running my business. However!! turning 50 was different for me! I haven't celebrated or thrown myself a party since giving birth to my boys. I had a pretty Epic 50th Birthday party for myself and swore I would have one Every year moving forward as I feel the day we were born is an Exceptional day and I plan for my next 50 years to be more Amazing than my last 50!!

How was your experience participating in the 40 Over 40 Project?

Amazing!!!! I LOVE LOVE Stephanie! I'm personally not into photoshoots as it's mainly for my business, but Stephanie has a way of making you feel so comfortable, confident and sexy and its not the booze! Lol

Are there any myths you would like to bust about the over 40s? If so, can you tell us about them?

I believe age is really just a number. Of course we age and things may not work the same. Pain here, sagging there, but we women can achieve anything! I always wanted to do a bikini competition before 40 and I ended up doing it at 47. So yes it took me several years to find the right trainer, motivation, etc., but I did it! I've done my 3rd competition this year and have 3 more to go and I've placed in all my categories! Anything is possible when you do the work.

Start by telling me who you are? Where are you from? How old are you now? What do you do?

My name is Melanie O’Shea. I am originally from the outskirts of Boston but have spent most of my life in South Florida (recently relocated to Texas!). I am the Founder, CEO of Equilife CBD (human products) and First Cut Organics (products for horses). Equilife CBD products can be found in physicians offices, chiropractic clinics and they are for sale online. First Cut Organics products can be found in vet clinics and online (we are expanding with sales reps in different regions throughout the country).

How did you mark turning 40? And how did that feel?

I was at a horse show on my 40th birthday- I spent it winning on my forever favorite horse, Wilma. Then enjoyed a fabulous dinner out with friends. After the horse show I flew out to Oklahoma to visit family. My aunt (who is more like a close girlfriend) reminded me of all the freedom that 40 provides. I realized how my confidence was at an all time high and the little things I used to get upset about were long gone! The 40s are so much fun!!!

How has your relationship to time changed as you have got older? Has it sped up? Has it slowed down? When did it move fastest for you?

Time seems to go by SO fast these days. I remember in my 20s time seemed to drag on. After my son was born it seemed to speed up. Now time appears to be in warp speed and not slowing at all. The best times really speed by….so stop and find beauty, enjoyment and the lesson in every moment!

What is the one piece of advice would you give your 20 something self?

There are so many things I would tell her!!! One of the most important things would be that things that are huge burdens or struggles now are the strengths you will have for the rest of your life- embrace them!!! You don't learn much from the good times but the more difficult or "bad" times are the lessons that stick and mold you. How you handle these and the fact you handled them at all builds a ton of self-confidence and knowing that you persevered through those times gives you the strength to go through the others that you will come across throughout your life.

How was your experience participating in the 40 Over 40 Project?

This experience has been so fun. It has been a blast to reflect on my past and recognize and give credit to how far I have come! I hope my story can somehow serve as an inspiration to other women.

Start by telling me who you are? Where are you from? How old are you now? What do you do?

Hi-I’m Heather. I was born and raised in Ohio. Just turned 49 so I’m still dabbling my toes in the 40’s pool!! I’ currently am an insurance specialist.

Have your values changed over time? What do you value now?

I believe I started being raised with a solid set of values-honesty-treating people the way I’d want to be treated and with kindness. I don't think they’ve changed: just become more important and in a wider array of areas. I love helping people and animals. I love being the reason someone smiles. Being a Breast Cancer survivor gave me much more empathy and understanding for those fighting an illness. I value simple joyful things. I value nature and our planet. I value the valuable time with family and friends. I value life much more than before.

What advice would you give to yourself when you were a young mother?

I would tell myself to first love myself. Be confident in who you are in all that you are. Mistakes aren’t failures, just learning opportunities. All that young ridiculous drama won’t last and isn’t important. As a young Mom-be patient with yourself enjoy the extraordinary gift and journey you’re on. Before you know it your baby girl will be all grown up. Treasure every moment.

How would you like people to describe you or see you?

I would like them to see me as strong and courageous. Kind and generous. Loving with a fragile heart. Fiercely protective of what I love. Fun to be around and hard working. Beautiful and real.

Are there any myths you would like to bust about the over 40s? If so, can you tell us about them?

Life doesn’t end at 40. It’s a new beginning and I’m so grateful to know that I made it through my 40’s. I had to fight many obstacles including Breast Cancer, and I know many that didn’t make it. My 40’s taught me so much and have made me a better person. I wouldn’t change it.

All of this speaks so near and dear to my heart. Like I said, this project has been an absolute labor of love, but I wouldn’t trade a single moment of it. It has been worth more than I could ever put into words, and knowing that these ladies (and many others) have been able to see this stunning side of themselves has also gifted me with a new perspective.

Which is why I am so glad to invite you to the 40 Over 40 Project Gala & Exhibition. We will be hosting a LIVE, one-night event to showcase ALL of the lovely ladies in this project. During this special event, we will also be unveiling the long-awaited magazine that includes the photo and story of each queen from the campaign!
